To Hot To Sew.....

For days I have sprawled in front of a
not wanting to move, not even a
.

When I finally came to, I wanted to
but my project was large, it covered my lap,
it was too hot to put up with that!
So I got out a new one, a project so fair,
Life is a Beach and I want to go there!
I started this one a couple of years {?} ago, doing sample embroidery stitches on this "Beach scape" fabric from Makeover UK, maybe this one, the grass looks the same. But if it's cooler tonight, I need to work on Purple Crayon because I want it to go to it's new home mid-Aug.

We are between the 2 towns in red, we got up to one of those temps yesterday afternoon....I would have looked, but I was blotto on the couch with the fan on me....and a wet towel....and the teeny tiny AC we got.

How many dogs can fit into one pool??
I found these pix on the komo news website. This family got 2 pools for their dogs, for those times they can't get them to the lake.

Redneck <span class=

One way to use your truck!

One of the Home Depots had a line outside it yesterday a.m., people waiting to get the AC's off the delivery truck. Supposedly one person bought one for 200$, went out to the parking lot and managed to sell it for 400$....not sure if that was planned, or if the guy caved. Today is starting out cooler....yipeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! I am even having a cup of coffee, warm coffee, to celebrate!

Comments on Comments

Thank You everyone for the kind words about our newest family member...as an added bonus, I got to hold her yesterday while her mama got a nap! Finestkind. Dan finally gave in and held her too. He worries about it when they are this new. Not so with our oldest, Ben, he came by with his 2 girls [and food] last night and finally got his chance to hold Rhiley. He loves to hold newborns!

Jo---McDonalds McHappy McMeals Ty Beanie Babies Toys are ava. until August 13....just ask for the toy when you get your McLatte. More info here.

Warty Mammal--Rhiley is doing good. I went with Ashley on Monday to see a Lactation Nurse...not sure if she was a nurse, or just a great moms milk person, but she helped a lot! Turns out that many of the drugs Ashley was given during labor, delayed her milk letting down. But that was not the case by Monday! The nurse weighted Rhiley before nursing, and after, and the little thing had filled up by 3 ounces!! {i always have to picture the bottle in my mind, to 'see' the amount an ounce is}

Todays weather forecast is for 100 degrees. Laugh it up, we don't get those temps, they are record breakers here. Yes, Christine, I will remember these days when it rains again!

Young...Heat....Old....Feet...Lady....Bugs....

EWJ, 88 years young, and her great-granddaughter,
Rhiley R D-Y, 5 days old.
The temp last night......
lets try that with the flash, shall we?
Baby feet....

I was holding the camera and Rhiley, so is this a 'my space' kind of shot?
McD's was giving McTY babies away for the 30th birthday of McHappy McMeals, so I asked for a toy with my McSalad and I got a McLadyBug, which I promptly turned into a McPinCushion for my design wall.
Also found a use for the "leaf" I crocheted a while back.

Lots of Things Today

Today's viewing is brought to you bass-akwards.
In case you missed the temp gauge in the next shot.....
Oh looks it's all tidy now! And the front door has a temporary gate slapped on it to keep the dogs from escaping....hah!
Re-deck building can be so messy.
Steph took this picture of the tree-struck-lighting [better read backwards] See the pale streak going down the trunk? That's what the power-bolt did.
For the Fork In The Road. Did I mention this yet?
Cat pretending to be cool....
Sometimes when you try something new, it turns out to be a mistake. Take Stephanie and Sushi, for example. Steph finally gave in and tried a piece that had eel in it. I don't know if she even ate the whole piece, but I am thankful she didn't eat any more than that, because she had an allergic reaction to it! Luckily, only swollen hands and welts on her arms and legs. So no more sushi for Steph!

Lighting Struck Twice!!!! Part Duex

Remember the lighting? That almost hit us? I found out what it did hit. My teen-next-door-neighbor was standing on her lawn at the time, between us and the tree in the next yard. [scared the crap out of her too] She saw it hit the tree.
I took the picture from my back door, you can see my corner-sun-window on the right.
The peeled bark goes all the way down the tree. I will get a better picture when I go outside after the heat wave. [temps in the 90's are record breakers for us here] The second strike that happened moments afterward, struck almost directly across from us, but the next street over.

Look It's Me....

On the 'other news' front....Steph got her drivers license! Busy week around here. And...I have Meg and Lily coming this morning...so off I go.

I Cried.....So Did Rhiley!

Rhiley Renee Davis-Yorba, July 22, 2009, {the day I was hoping for!} 6.6 pounds {I thought she would be heavier}, and 19 inches long! {she is going to take after her daddy???}
Bright eyed the whole time.

Danny, dad, was in a bit of a daze....I had to disturb him so he could put Rhiley's first diaper on her.
All My Children......Ashley, my middlest holding her first, my oldest, Ben, my youngest, Stephanie, my newest, Danny. Danny is Ashley's SO who will someday be her husband. This is my third granddaughter, and the first birth I got to attend. Wow wow wow....
I cried.
I also sang Happy Birthday to Rhiley when I got to hold her.
{i didn't want to be selfish, so i waited to ask for her}

It's A Girl....For Sure A Girl.....

Rhiley was born at 6:58 p.m. on July 22, 2009. She is 19 inches long, 6.6 pounds, and has lots of hair, not tons, just lots. Pix on Thursday sometime, lots of things for grandma to do. Ashley and Danny, the parents, are thrilled! Oh, and she looks like Danny.

Water Has Broken....Labor Has Begun!

Ashley is waiting here with us....and waiting....and waiting for the contractions to get closer together.
We had a family get together yesterday, because Ben and daughter Lily had birthdays on Sunday. Megan wasn't into looking animated for the camera, but Lily sure showed her toothy smile for Daddy, who had the camera!

Ben just gave Lily a blob of frosting to play with....and a spin on a towel.
Another Megan face, and Steph wondering what I was taking pix of.
It was around 80 degrees, supposed to get hotter by this weekend.
Good thing the hospital is air conditioned, cuz that's where I will be with Ashley and Danny. [all pix are enlargeable]

I Don't Care

I don't LIKE that combo of words.
Last night I got mad at someone in my family who said those words.
For 20 odd years I have been told those words in regards to many many questions, from the super simple to the very complex. They have not made my life more pleasant, that's for sure!
Then last night when I asked a very important question of the next generation, that was the answer I got, "I don't care."
I got mad.
Not as mad as I felt I could have gotten, but mad enough to say something about it. I DON"T WANT to see a member of my family go through the misery of years of listening to those words. I just wish I could explain this to the person without getting all pissed off about it.
But I will find a way.

Happy Birthday Hon-buns

Happy Birthday My Ben and My Grandgirlie Lily! Lily is 1 years old today!!
and her daddy is 20 something.
No doubting the the family resemblance!
The storybook quilt is sandwiched and I got 4 stitches of the quilting started last night. Yipee!
This blue stuff is a variety of fabrics that I threw in a baggie with some dye and left baking in the sun for the afternoon. I wanted to see how the different fabrics would react to the dye...not as much difference as I was hoping for, but then they aren't dry yet either. I have them drip drying on the back railing. The fabrics are damasks, taffeta, that sort of thing...and a piece of cotton batt.
Oh my, there's and hole in my front yard.
Oh look, 2 more holes.
ooooooooo..........bright orange string............

hehe.....the baby thing on the side bar? I wondered what it did when you went past the due date....it says 'congratulations'.....but Ashley hasn't had the baby yet. She is now only 3 days over due and she doesn't want to have the baby today on her brothers birthday, who now shares that day with his own daughter. But think of the fun a party would be!

Cool Cat

While Blogging around the net, I came across this cool Cat! Go look at the other picture of him, he is so sauve! But I like this pik better.

I am working on Noddy's hands now that Purple Crayon has been completed. I want to sandwich this quilt and get started on the quilting!!

Sunshine and Braids

After that scary thunder storm [don't laugh you-who-live-in-REAL-scary-storm-areas] the weather has been mild and getting warmer. I think the next dark clouds that roll in will send me into the closet!

One day over the weekend, Steph asked me to do a french braid for her....
Then I suggested she keep it in for a few days....Not bad. I didn't get the colors I was hoping to show you. Since her last dye job, which was really red and has been fading to lovely oranges, she had some lovely shades all mixed together.
I am almost done with the purple crayon. I was trying to fill this big area between Noddy and Max, that Wild Thing, and ended up making a Simpson, as in Bart, relation. Well, I guess that's scary enough. [all the extra marks are the pen I was using to come up with something, they will wash out]
Mom is home and getting settled in. I am pooped. No baby yet. Almost due date....

Close Encounter With Lighting

I thought about it later today.....maybe we should have checked our own roof! You would think that if the house was hit, we would know it, but you know..."you just never know" [famous saying in our household]

I also got to thinking about this day of energy, and a flashback struck me....

This isn't the first time I have been really really close to lighting without being physically zapped. Back in the '70's we had a station wagon 1971_Plymouth_Satellite_Regent.jpg (67424 bytes)the length of a submarine and dad had made a roof top carrier for it, a water tight carrier it turned out. I was 17, camping with 3 other chicks [girls] in the Sierras and of course there was a summer storm. That roof rack must have been holding a good bit of water, because while out driving in the storm [dumb huh? did I mention we were TEENS] we were hit by lighting. The car came to a stop, the engine died, and there was a few seconds of complete silence, no movement. Then one of the chicks [girls] screamed....but it was weird, I could see her mouth open to start the scream, but the sound was delayed. It was very very weird. And scary. I don't know if I ever told my parents.

For years I thought it was a lonely, topless tree near the road we were passing at the time. But when we went back the next day, there weren't any scorch marks on the tree.....So I don't know for sure if it was our car that got hit, or the tree, but it sounds better in the telling to have car hit.

Lighting Struck Twice!!!!

We had a storm clap it's way through our area in the last hour. Lots of lighting, which isn't a very common thing for us. More uncommon were the 2, that's right, 2 strikes that hit something near by. We don't know right now what got hit, but we could feel the pressure, the tingle, the raw power of the strikes. Dan was sitting in his chair, which is up against the window....he leaped out of it like his butt was on fire! Course I was off the sofa in a millisecond too. The second strike was within a minute of the first one. No Shit! Page [dog] is still trembling. I think I am too.

The Komo News Weather Blog has some interesting video by locals....am hoping there will be one of this storm up soon.

Zoot Suit?????

Christine commented that my cat isn't a Tuxedo Cat, so she must be a Zoot Suit cat. So I did the usual Google and came up with these pix.
I will have to go back and look at my cat!
I also found this bright Suit of Zoot at a costume website.
Zoot Suit (Yellow) Adult Costume
As for needlework...still writin' with my purple crayon!

Cats, the neighbors Cat, Boots

When Dan is out working on something around the house, Boots likes to watch. Only when Dan is there, us females don't count. I just missed the shot of Boots sitting catterly. As soon as I got the camera up, Boots moved.

I have continued to work on the Purple Crayon, crayoning it's way around the applique parts.
