Our youngest daughter collects snowmen, because I give them to her. I make many of them. This year they out grew the hoop-mobile version for hanging, and grew up to the tree shaped one. In the middle of the 'pic-collage', the 'tree' I made for our cards this year. And last, the tree we have this year. Made by our granddaughters in their Girl Scout Troops! </div>

She is 2.9 months. Her development is right on to.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Change of subject. Dan hasn't been able to bring home a free calendar from the bank or the gas station! So I pulled out old ones, and am collage-ing pix together. They are messy, but they should be fun to look at when sitting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since the back side of the pages are an even bigger mess, and not easy to see with all the other months poking out the sides.....</div>

I decided to back them with kraft paper, from box stuffings. </div>

When I ran out of plain, I went with granddaughter-painted-drop-cloth paper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I noticed the "months" and "weekdays" from yet another calendar, so I cut those out. Not sure if I will print out the grid, or just use a ruler and pen and do that part myself too. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Making journals is like sewing....has a whole bunch of terms pertaining to the subject....like 'belly bands' [for holding stuff to a page, like the red/yellow/black one above] and 'tuck spots' [like the pink and purple on edge of pages] and and...well, I don't know what to call the 'fabric/paper/place-holder' I made [the 'tie' looking thing] The groups of pages themselves are called 'signatures.'</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjX13wBGTrYTKTfXLVXibKUvt_cpOwF8L6Is7DBNtVpiZXrxHo0v7nA8quBLL0mwMKZzqQWm_zCRpvija1We5BNz8vk4vXVObtfPvcuEeA5EfXlt9uuWaBlhL5hyiCAkKxBeFpog/s1600/Pictures8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjX13wBGTrYTKTfXLVXibKUvt_cpOwF8L6Is7DBNtVpiZXrxHo0v7nA8quBLL0mwMKZzqQWm_zCRpvija1We5BNz8vk4vXVObtfPvcuEeA5EfXlt9uuWaBlhL5hyiCAkKxBeFpog/s320/Pictures8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These journals have one each, made up of 20+ pages. I used liquid watercolor paint to spray papers, and though the colors don't look that great here, they are very happy in person. I am hoping to donate to a fundraiser, so I wanted these child friendly. I even added a picture of my own, to a page. No worry about copyrights that way! The [sprayed] envelopes are for putting stuff in, and I glued them to the page so they have top 'pockets', which is another journal term. [also a sewing term]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMnBdZoyD7ih-GT2ncKwO2iDuVv7VwGpITDZFRRPCD4LNXDLcoeJWaJ9aHCz4SV_ZGxgeNDtGAijFhU9QmknetxnevRZevQUC-FE5m3EjISjnlxDFuiGLC4VqCZXvwwPl1JYVjlQ/s1600/Pictures9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1600" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMnBdZoyD7ih-GT2ncKwO2iDuVv7VwGpITDZFRRPCD4LNXDLcoeJWaJ9aHCz4SV_ZGxgeNDtGAijFhU9QmknetxnevRZevQUC-FE5m3EjISjnlxDFuiGLC4VqCZXvwwPl1JYVjlQ/s320/Pictures9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/701169388/word-search-ephemera-cards-junk-journal?ref=yr_purchases" target="_blank">word search puzzles </a> on Etsy and thought that would be perfect for these. I know 'vintage' may not interest a child, but I didn't want to mess with the way the print set up is. I printed them on my 'watercolor' paper. [they come 2 to a page, and since the paper is folded in half, the puzzles are separated]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also found <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_LdPX4eJZs" target="_blank">a great storage idea</a> for all the digi downloads I am getting, and when searching office supplies, I found these pocket-page things. [the orange thing in the pix] Of course I had to make a collage for the front of the binder.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I used brown packing paper for the ABC pages, which I sprayed on via large stencils I came across in a drawer [which caused a light-bulb moment], with ink <a href="https://rangerink.com/collections/dylusions-ink-sprays" target="_blank">spray from Ranger</a>. I sewed, on the machine, across the tops and bottoms of paper since I doubled it to make it stronger. I added coffee-dyed binder paper between each Letter. I made up 'cards' of art work by my mom, the dog, me, the 'giraffe lady', and daughter Steph, the bugs. I also looked for "M" things and found a color sample, 'mixed' berry-something, and a Monopoly game card. Turns out, Mediterranean Ave. is the first property, so very fitting for a 'first' birthday....besides being an 'm' thing. The 2 'signatures' are held in by elastic, so the 'photo' pages can be rearranged, or added to or...or...The ABC pages and their binder page additives, are all sewn together! My machine was not super happy, but it had no choice. The hardest part was getting all the correct letters sprayed to the correct side of the page! The A and Z letters are on the same piece of paper. Other pages have 4 letters on them. And yes, they are all in the correct order!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So my adventure into journal making has me coffee dying paper, above, and RIT dying, below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLRW94h1QX28C2hWEsm1Hwj5IPLqeGmkIKOCZn0Dc6eXNkSCm2aluxeX7rC5owk4NgPeuC2u_rj3vKCiMmQZbRG9ZPEqRSmB2g6V-m5WEpkwndhUZT9gs5SnO2nxq1ucihu4NpOg/s1600/YellowRITdyepaper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLRW94h1QX28C2hWEsm1Hwj5IPLqeGmkIKOCZn0Dc6eXNkSCm2aluxeX7rC5owk4NgPeuC2u_rj3vKCiMmQZbRG9ZPEqRSmB2g6V-m5WEpkwndhUZT9gs5SnO2nxq1ucihu4NpOg/s320/YellowRITdyepaper.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Because I am not sure if the RIT is colorfast on the paper, I am hesitant to use them in any I give to the grandchildren. BUT look at that yellow!!!!! I was getting no where with the yellow watercolor paint, so when this idea jumped on board, yeehaw!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The coffee versions above....<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmRsNgFQ7q3D6U2Vro3Ie3w" target="_blank">Roxy Creations</a> mentioned it in one of her recent You Tube videos....so I went, via her link to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8_E_l8sCt5bY7Q4CL1naiw" target="_blank">Medieval Mirage</a> and <i>her</i> YT video of how to coffee dye paper in a limited space. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I couldn't get the water boiling fast enough to try this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;"><b>Jarf's instructions</b></span>===Use instant coffee in a spray bottle, spray each paper as you add it to your tub. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #660000;"><b>Vicky's version</b></span>==== I have some instant, but I also have used grounds. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
~~~I put the hot water in a bowl with the grounds, stirred the mess around, then poured the coffee through a strainer, all 10 days or so worth that I had on hand. It was very very dark...more like dirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
~~~Then I just poured the coffee onto 200 sheets of binder paper, that I sort of spread out in the Costco sheet-cake-plastic-lid that I have been using for dying paper. I didn't bother rinsing out the past color experiment residues, either.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The paper sucked up the first cup of muddy coffee very quickly<b>.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I added more mud....then I had to add just water!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The blue lines of the binder paper started to bleed almost immediately.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The BEST part is....the paper separates as it dries. Even stacks of 50 sheets!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I only tore one piece of paper...ONE! As the stacks dried, out in the sun, I was able to split them up into smaller stacks. It took almost 24 hours to get them all dry, or mostly at least, so there won't be any mold issues.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are the papers attractive? Not really. But they are grungy, they crackle, they are still usable. AND I can always try again with the same paper, and maybe even spray it on as directed!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Though I haven't been posting much, I have been having fun!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Three GD's got multi-tools for multi reasons. They took a 'Survive a Zombie' type activity/class in Girl Scouts. So of course they wanted to continue what they learned there. The tiny pouch the tools came in was not very sturdy, so Gup to the rescue. Considering the whole family goes on walks, day hikes, etc. I figured a multi-pouch was something they could use. So 13 inches of their dad's raggy jeans legs, 3 of them, some thoughtful creativity on my side, and a broken tape measure. The tape measure, number side facing in, makes the bags snap shut. The bags can be put on belts, hooked to purse like straps, or to belt loops. They each got a tiny bag out of the scraps.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Early this month, I made junk type journals for the same GD's. But no pix. !</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, the older 2 GD's want journals too....and then my SIL said HE wanted one too! ?? Wow. I had used lousy story books for the first ones, but needed another idea for these. I just happened to have saved these sturdy envelopes from a sticker order I had made several years ago. Slip 2 of them together via the flap, and you have a cover with pockets! I am covering them with kraft paper that comes in some mail orders. They will take regular 8 x 11 paper for pages, which I haven't figured out how to add yet. [but i have been watching plenty of you tubes for ideas] I 'dyed' some papers with green RIT, that is the greenish one. I did take pix of that project....</div>

The ants have been bad for the feeders this year, so I am having to resort to creative solutions. Dan suggested I put it in a 'moat', thus the bird bath on the table. There is a robin at the birdbath, drinking the water.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ahh....there she is! The bath is among the flower pots, on top of a flower pot, because the bath is a bit short. I guess they never liked my DIY bathes from the last few years. I had to go buy a 'real' one! It wasn't costly. Just really short.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Moving on to the Patches. Gah these are soooo fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These 3 are for swappers who wanted to play. They were mailed yesterday, but I don't think any come to my blog, so....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1PyYXo7TPAqNZOZtB636PqcWgLdF0Sgo6jdbH3cBiXhwgI2P5WErQO7UipSHn3FS1XqFRkOo7X3bRYOIVloe4PjLpf88GnbLdO_8e515hqLsz1E7gzXsHpgTylkTsSUhQMs9qGA/s1600/3moreswappatches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1PyYXo7TPAqNZOZtB636PqcWgLdF0Sgo6jdbH3cBiXhwgI2P5WErQO7UipSHn3FS1XqFRkOo7X3bRYOIVloe4PjLpf88GnbLdO_8e515hqLsz1E7gzXsHpgTylkTsSUhQMs9qGA/s320/3moreswappatches.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Am taking another 'class' from Jude Hill, and the 'prompt' is "green."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wasn't going to 'play' until I was reordering the chaos in my bucket. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My there were a lot of green scraps! I stacked them as I came to them, chose this ''30's print" for it's greenyness, and started at the bottom/selvage. I didn't really do much tweaking, just picked off the stack and lay it down, working my way up the fabric. It's nearly 2 couch cushions long. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi973pbNjIf1nk8WdqJNjaVPAxiMY0yiRRI7CjfulsigjSVeq9Pvkzd1KBNSk1HFXMg8HRbMHC-bTSXRynizFak1j1RRbN7Ln13l4hkTNqyaD4Klv25aSOryF2SG0Aji-rsBAkExA/s1600/greenmaylongpatch.judeclass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi973pbNjIf1nk8WdqJNjaVPAxiMY0yiRRI7CjfulsigjSVeq9Pvkzd1KBNSk1HFXMg8HRbMHC-bTSXRynizFak1j1RRbN7Ln13l4hkTNqyaD4Klv25aSOryF2SG0Aji-rsBAkExA/s320/greenmaylongpatch.judeclass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Other works turning up. Not much stitching on them yet, except for the middle one. It suddenly reminded me of mom, of her red, blue, and lots of white, wardrobe. Then I dug out the black thread, which I don't really like using, hard to see. But mom had bought it for a needlework she did over a decade ago, probably a lot longer than that even. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy Mother's Day Mom! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I picture you and dad having the retirement you never had together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Patches still going strong. On the 'wander' patch, I satin stitched all around the edge of the words part/scrap. Like a regular patch you would see on...well anything you put a patch on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Seems like triangles need to pair up with squares lately. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Except for this next one...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one is really basic, for now. I stitched the 2 triangles together, [before I could match them to a square] wrong sides together, seam allowance to the right side. Maybe that flower needs to become a roof on the square??</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Below....came across this in the search for something else. This was started before Ashley had children! [almost 10 years now!]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut apart a works I had made while taking one of Jude's classes. There is part of a soda can, a lid to bottle, labels from clothes, an accidental dinosaur that appeared when I was trying out stitches....Oh, and the ribbon I pressed and melted when I was giving it a bit of flattening.</div>

This is what I mailed off the my swap-pal. I laughed when I realized we BOTH used flamingos on our patches. I also gave her a xmas card I didn't send in 2018, because it's a little more 'arty' than many on my holiday list. AND I crocheted her a "thistle", that I made up as I went along. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That is all that was in this thing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since Christmas, this has been the new occupant, the great big roasting pan [110 power] so we don't have to use the oven [220 power] when we want to roast something large. For hours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjof5fvxvzFhQLLn_PNnLGe10mB2fw7JnVwei8uBMPblSLZrfyDvLC0yW2mnD1PInszpiwsEQpmypsT2CR-Cj5VlExTs1IfjQbyIzGGvdSEcb5eEd2LyuYnvaGa2lcs3I2QcbhRyg/s1600/DSCN5076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjof5fvxvzFhQLLn_PNnLGe10mB2fw7JnVwei8uBMPblSLZrfyDvLC0yW2mnD1PInszpiwsEQpmypsT2CR-Cj5VlExTs1IfjQbyIzGGvdSEcb5eEd2LyuYnvaGa2lcs3I2QcbhRyg/s320/DSCN5076.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So....that big pan takes up a lot of counter space when in use. I have the crappiest kitchen design, so counter space is limited. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I asked for a cart for this roasting beast. I looked at this un-used cupboard, and decided it would do. BUT....it needed wheels. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fast forward to last week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There, on top of a trash can, sat a broken furniture dolly. Complete with carpet on 2 ends, and WHEELS on all 4 'corners'. Dan decided to re-home this poor broken dolly, and Vicky knew exactly what to use it for.</div>

See those wheels??? They are beautiful!! and to the right you can see the wheels to the heater caddy....yes sir I love those wheelie things. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I have a mobile kitchen island, that can be wheeled back to the sewing room when not needed.</div>

I pieced all the backs from all the scraps too. I didn't cut up the scraps, just used them as they came from my generous Quilt Friends. Rhiley wanted a blue quilt back, so I started with the Bird Panel and went around and around. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I haven't added a label, so it isn't 'officially' done. I will just sign it somewhere with a perm marker.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmG3h9mVlPdBHyreTQxNnE_DWgcmCTKd-OsKNocFhnMmAIAVgT-uXNa1cwU_TopDE5R0WjX42DPEekxDKBF1QWdneLgUliZQ9U62ZaSag8YYV7syLzBr3x2GMD5eF0kCkLAtwKuA/s1600/2019-03-14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: black; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></span><span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmG3h9mVlPdBHyreTQxNnE_DWgcmCTKd-OsKNocFhnMmAIAVgT-uXNa1cwU_TopDE5R0WjX42DPEekxDKBF1QWdneLgUliZQ9U62ZaSag8YYV7syLzBr3x2GMD5eF0kCkLAtwKuA/s320/2019-03-14.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since these quilts are made to be duvet covers, I needed to add a place to open them. After a LOT of thinking I went with snap tape. So it wasn't stiff [zipper] or have strings [ties] or bulky buttons [button holes]. I also stitched it into the side seam. Most covers I have seen, are open at a short end, which leaves the opposite end the part that goes under your chinny-chin-chin. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And that is where the quilts wear out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKBEq4pj90z6yy6lUgGNYIUUSor9jRS81bZqo2oejXTtU_lxiq3BcGXsaP9VRZQisRm86kr8usEQd-lWGx9jKm68sBr6zC8zYvGnWQN8eIVB-AYj3tkXwK0KSENNhzbFCc3J60vg/s1600/insidefirst7of7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKBEq4pj90z6yy6lUgGNYIUUSor9jRS81bZqo2oejXTtU_lxiq3BcGXsaP9VRZQisRm86kr8usEQd-lWGx9jKm68sBr6zC8zYvGnWQN8eIVB-AYj3tkXwK0KSENNhzbFCc3J60vg/s320/insidefirst7of7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since these quilts won't have a 'wrong' side, here is a shot of the inside seams.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Because we like to see that part too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now the other 6 of the 7 should be a tad bit easier, since I have worked out the assembly parts.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This mend is on the back of Ashley's flying geese and kites quilt. Keeping with the flying/color themes, [i showed the whole piece I have of this fabric in my last post] I worked around the print and the hole. I also added a bit of batt in the space, so am having to add quilting stitches too. The appliqued patch is hand stitched to the backing cloud fabric, for the most part, but the hand quilting stitches go through all the layers, as they should...</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">Turns out there are quite a few areas needing patches! But...that is to be expected when you tie a quilt, as this one is. Tying is usually done with a larger needle to pull yarn or other heavy threads through. The needle punches a giant hole in the fabrics, which are then pulled together tightly, and damages the fabrics. I know this, I still do this. Mainly because I like thick quilts, or comforters, so my family has grown to love them too. Some of our quilts, I used comforters for the batt, so hand quilting was not gonna happen. </span></div>

With this first quilt repair/mend, I used the machine. *You can see how it smashed all the layers together. And shows what I mean by "all funked up." Since this one will possibly be used for inside a duvet cover/quilt, I decided to go with the faster, more durable mend. Or it might still be used to snuggle on the couch with all your family, or making a tent....Used by children, for sure.</div>

More story behind this red and green quilt. My mom bought the fabrics for me to make a quilt for Ben's bed. 1980's. But Ben's bed was really just a Coleman cot, so a twin sized quilt would have been way to big. Ben was 3 at the time, so a cot was for sure big enough for him! I later got a bunk bed that used 'real' mattresses! But that cot was put back into use when his second sister was too big for sharing her [his first] sisters bed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
~We were Tiny house living before it became popular. Way before.~</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ben finally got his own room when he was in high school! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't know what happened to the cot.</div>

Speaking of mending. I found an 'egg' once [?] used for mending socks. Perhaps they were known as 'stockings' in that era? {it's that wooden thing, Ashley}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway. My mom had one, that same Grandma Evie. I think about it every now and then, not knowing where it ended up. A few days ago, a neighbor gave me a tin full of misc sewing things. Including this egg. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that we have some rather cold weather, a lot of people on local FB pages were wondering how others keep their feeders from freezing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have done something different every year, so this is this years. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think this may be a keeper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJUq9fdCEtWWjaKu3ZOCTf7Ag5jTgwcWziHQ4_AwTGC8nVegT9J9eqQPNHWyoc5ybqofYAr3Lsx_IkVIcrbW4377kXQU1WzuoFoKnmLcn04k7STKW4KOb00ApzCGpku2dXagCMzA/s1600/hummerheat2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJUq9fdCEtWWjaKu3ZOCTf7Ag5jTgwcWziHQ4_AwTGC8nVegT9J9eqQPNHWyoc5ybqofYAr3Lsx_IkVIcrbW4377kXQU1WzuoFoKnmLcn04k7STKW4KOb00ApzCGpku2dXagCMzA/s320/hummerheat2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><u>Already have.</u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>1.</b> Outdoor table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>2. </b>PVC pipe "stand" created for the summer umbrella, to make it higher.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>3.</b> Tin paint can re-purposed for the 3rd time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>4.</b> Ceramic light bulb socket-thing, wired into a wall socket box, with a heavy electric cord and plug. Probably re-purposed also, like from an extinct appliance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>5.</b> Scrap of wood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>6.</b> Another section of PVC pipe and a 'join' to add even more height to the pipe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>7. </b> 75 watt incandescent light bulb. First try. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>7.2. </b> 40 watt bulb to see if that will work. <span style="color: red;">Nope, not enough heat.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
[Love LED, but no heat output for this purpose.]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>8.</b> Piece of tin foil to cover the bulb, that got all sticky anyway when I put the feeder back up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I would re-purpose a floor lamp if I didn't have a husband who decided to use the table already outside. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So there you have it. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made peanut butter looking goop...sludge...stuff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Glue and acrylic paint, for color, mixed together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Add cornstarch, stir, add more, stir....until you get the thickness you want.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the 'fire pit' for the 'camp' I mentioned last post. It's a PB jar lid, I just realized. There is a hole in the middle of it for the battery tea light, for the 'firelight'. <span style="color: #b45f06;">{{So we can get to the tiny switch the lights have...but looking at this, I might not have needed the hole. Something to ponder further about.}}</span> I glued the rocks around the outside edge of the lid, with the E6000. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was thinking the goop mix would sag? slump? more than it has. But it started drying rather quickly. I had fun playing with it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We shall see if it works, past this point, but it was at least 30 minutes between finishing and photographing. [Daughter wanted a picture of it]</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Women's March Jan. 21, 2017</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiIS6TXw729kxBwtI3VwsQSCWwFUs9IpiBrzw7vJxZAwCB0owMd4Dz18gw0PLgzyvIwIxQ4bHA4lxElFZ7uMgyk4mtXoysOh4GfL8qNUse_smwHoFEDUcyJZiLyp4aRq50uzH4nQ/s1600/womensmarch12.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="964" data-original-width="1600" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiIS6TXw729kxBwtI3VwsQSCWwFUs9IpiBrzw7vJxZAwCB0owMd4Dz18gw0PLgzyvIwIxQ4bHA4lxElFZ7uMgyk4mtXoysOh4GfL8qNUse_smwHoFEDUcyJZiLyp4aRq50uzH4nQ/s320/womensmarch12.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I finished it! A few days late. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I really like how the knit fabric worked for couching the letters. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiweS1rZO9T1ZWUNJGnuYRGdqcWB-VvJ0NCWuF5UtgaiHzWCB6AHnhgFaMh0PAsO1OeFWS2TKcx5jVJ-fLourHdonxtXd0ZRAdF8P7uC2vnxgwUinvQ5k-esN21or2lmmv_F0OTQg/s1600/womensmarch13.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="808" data-original-width="1600" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiweS1rZO9T1ZWUNJGnuYRGdqcWB-VvJ0NCWuF5UtgaiHzWCB6AHnhgFaMh0PAsO1OeFWS2TKcx5jVJ-fLourHdonxtXd0ZRAdF8P7uC2vnxgwUinvQ5k-esN21or2lmmv_F0OTQg/s320/womensmarch13.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This part also has 'forest land' added.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I added a few of the facts...like how many marches there were that day and in how many cities. They don't match up. I added them anyway.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I worked on the 'forest lands' from this angle, below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLVM0Sio8D5Ymv87pwPYjFSdRy5d-IFc2xGqZNFCFZP1i7tVJM4ba0XitVOaYUgw5E5O4HL9tDMKBUTFIufrP6aMLHF1TCuxAZ0KDSxsjA_CUUYJ_efQApvcJ1C8EpPvSVRmLJGQ/s1600/womensmarch14.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="808" data-original-width="1600" height="161" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLVM0Sio8D5Ymv87pwPYjFSdRy5d-IFc2xGqZNFCFZP1i7tVJM4ba0XitVOaYUgw5E5O4HL9tDMKBUTFIufrP6aMLHF1TCuxAZ0KDSxsjA_CUUYJ_efQApvcJ1C8EpPvSVRmLJGQ/s320/womensmarch14.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's not pressed yet, or signed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I washed out the ink for the words, the backing bled, so now there is more pink than white, overall. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
[i am not good at thoroughly washing out dye on small things] </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Did I mention I totally messed up mine while trying to glue it?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got Ashley the glue you use over the TOP of the puzzle!!</div>

The base is the tray from Costco that once held a bday cake. I kept the plastic cover too, in case I want a dust cover...although keeping</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Thursday, 2 of MY women went to our state capital, Olympia, on a class field trip. They got to meet 2 Women Elected last Nov., </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
who represent the local areas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my daughter, her daughter, and Senator <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Emily_Randall" target="_blank">Emily Randall</a>. She heard there were some Kitsap Kids in the house, so she went out to greet them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The other representative they met was <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Michelle_Caldier" target="_blank">Michelle Caldier</a>, the Republican member of the house, but no picture with her, darn it, because we can be bi-partisan too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I figure this is a good day to update my Women's March 2017 WIP </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
[work-in-progress] I am not done, but the Marches March on today!!</div>

Working with the 'yarn-strips-cut-from-leggin's' was so much fun!! They aren't stitched down yet, just basted. But I am sooooo glad I took this pic, because I can now see my M is not quite right.</div>

The whole piece. And yes it is wobbly, and will probably not lose that charming feature. The round blueish part? Why that's our Big Blue Marble.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Other Mother? All the eggs a woman has are made while in the womb of HER mother, so in essence, we are carrying our future grandchildren.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well...it started out like <a href="https://catinthebatt.blogspot.com/2017/12/creating-continues.html" target="_blank">the Bear I made for #6</a>, something to teeth/chew/slobber on, and washable! Along the way I changed my mind and tried for a squirrel. Near the finish, it looked more like a monkey. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This one is for Max, #7. His mama likes squirrels. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://catinthebatt.blogspot.com/2018/03/he-called-it-doily.html" target="_blank">His dad is into elephants, but I already made him one of those.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So who is into monkeys?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started this 'scene' in Nov. or Dec. 2018.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been adding bits to it as they came along. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I just started stitching, so I consider it a 'start'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The "Women's March 2017" needs working on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the "middle" part of this post. I think.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
[Click on the label on the right side to see all the posts with this work in them.]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As I looked at the whole cloth, I figured it's time to add the words to it. Which led to an idea to try couching yarn to shape the letters. No pink yarn, but this pair of girls leggins' has pink in it. Since I had been given permission to 'do what you want with these, mom,' I cut them up!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As you can see, knit fabric, when pulled, curls up into nice tubes. </div>

Rather yarn looking, right?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Dan decided to finish the puzzle I had started. I sat in that chair in the background and crocheted. He used his phone to enlarge the picture, so he could find things, without taking a photo of it. No magnifying glass around here. Need to change that for sure.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had to do something colorful! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I want a gift to give, and I had this piece pinned and waiting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I actually started it when the boxes of fabrics came in. That piece of dark red with circles, say 5 inches sq. The only piece of that print in the box. I love those colors. I put it to the side. As other fabrics emerged from the boxes, they got added when they felt right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, it was the bird print pinned to the red sq. below, and the tan sq. above. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That was it. 3 prints. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That is how it begins. </div>
