The Number 23

Figures largely on my husbands side, birthdays and wedding dates. And now for this next year, the whole year! It was our anniversary yesterday, our 23rd. Dan gave me flowers and a card and I gave him.....clean clothes for work? Does that count? Being a caregiver to my mom and grandchildren, with husband and my own children tossed in, doesn't leave much for me of anything. Doing handwork, while sitting with mom, is my fun time. I could
mention my depression but I won't because it's depressing.

Changes

Blogger is adding a few new things so I am jumping right in.  Not sure if I like the new "compose area".  Adding this one photo was not an easy task, forget the second photo I wanted to add.
One of the locals.  About the size of your pinkie finger.

Paper Quilting Megan Style

Megan wanted to add pictures to my mosaic block too. She also learned to use a safety pin. Sneaky Grandma, teaching something new....I am now going to have Meg use the pins for 'doll clothes' instead of scotch tape! Later, I found Lily {20 months} messing with my pincushion, but instead of pushing all the pins in like every child before her has done, she was picking out a pin and re-inserting it into another spot on the cushion. She was very careful, used her forefinger and thumb, and had her pinky finger stuck out just right.
And below this you can see all the whining I deleted. It went on and on. Bah!
I am having a case of "stuck in the middle with [me]".

Meet Rosie and Dale

This couple has moved into the wooded area behind the Rosedale Market where my daughter works. Ashley is amazed at how Dale takes such care of Rosie. I am hoping I can show more pictures in the weeks to come.

A sure sign of Spring!

Spring Advent~ Day 20

So now that the Vernal Equinox has arrived, which is what brings on Spring, and this advent, I thought you might like some ideas for what to do with all these bird things! I couldn't save a picture from the idea page, but I was able to save this yellow bird to get you started....

Mosaic Blocks 2 & 3 & Grandchildren

Take the picture quick, Vick-y, before the dog jumps up on this. [i used the dog seat in the window to get the daylight.] Block #2 of 9 of the mosaic. Animals, as you can tell. The moose was a t-shirt of mom's. I didn't turn under the edges of that one, but I did go over the raw edge with a cross kind of stitch.
Block # 3 is plotted and has even been plotted and put on Abby for size.....
The Travelers Quilt has been finished around the edges, but I am not sure if it is done yet. I think it needs beads.
Ashley had all 3 girls the other day, so they went to the park. Megan likes to pose and the stroller chicks look kind of stunned.
So that's Lily and Megan {my sons girls} and Rhiley {Ashleys}
More of Rhiley. {notice she still hasn't got eyebrows.}

Lily sharing with Rhiley. That cigar she is holding is supposed to be a tree trunk.

Spring Advent~ Day 18

These are so different. I think they are fabric....the link says you can buy them from the Pottery Barn, but while I was looking for them I came across these...
Bird Nest Mug, Set of 4
I still don't know if they have the other birds still, but they still need to be shown off!

Don't Pinch Me!

Happy St. Patrick's Day
Google looks green today.

thanks to a teacher i had in 1st grade, back in the 1960's, i have always made sure my kids had green on somewhere. i even made a pin-on button like the sample above. what did the teacher do? she called me up to her desk, asked if i was wearing any green, which i wasn't, then pulled out her lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggg red fingernails and pinched me on the back of my hand. my kids were not going to have that happen to them!!!!
so much for st. patricks day, huh?!
Mom came up with a ditty for that teacher...
"I may not wear green
but you will always be mean."

Spring Advent~ Day 17

Sometimes you just have to top things with nests. After you make one, of course!

Spring Advent~ Day 15

So in all my Googling for things birdish, I came across this website. I love the display of different eggs. To actually find the picture of this poster on the website, I scrolled down....down....down....and downer even more. This site had so much info about birds reproduction, it was astounding! I don't think they were able to answer the age old question though...about which came first. But any other questions you might have, they have answers for.

I Sew

I am having a lot of fun sewing these blocks! This is the first one, I am already working on the second.
taking scissors to fabric and cutting out the pictures I want is fun too. Frugal? Not by any means!!!!
Megan and Lily were here last night for a few hours. The table by my chair is just to hard to resist exploring when you are 20 months old. My spool of thread was explored to a different area of the room and the Thread Chewer found it and lived up to her name.
Thank goodness Megan was able to rescue it for me before to much damage had been done. This is the Oliver Twist spool, 'spensive stuff!
The cat likes to catch me not looking before she MEOWS to be let in. Scares me. every. single. time. Double pane windows have no effect blocking out a determined cats meow.
here is the table by my chair. {and a tv table.}
It is actually a file table, or something like that, that I found on Target's website a couple of years ago. It's perfect for me. Has a drawer [file area] for me to stash stuff, besides having 2 table top surfaces!
the cat likes to get in the way of the camera too.

Spring Advent~ Day 14

I think you can get the large ones too!
I just noticed the mouse on the end of the line....hehehe....
These might actually be fabric wall stickers....that's what the wordage in the link says.

Spring Advent~ Day 13

These lucky birds have been under the big lights....Terry Grant, the designer of these lovelies, just finished an episode of Quilting Arts TV about these guys. Way cool!!! She also sells these birds...or she did...she might be to busy to add more to her etsy shop....or not....

Thought I would add this link too...Birdorable, all things bird.

Trees and yet Another Body

My Mom noticed this 'thing' in the tree with the sun shining on it.
I told her it was branches. Looked like a double feather duster. It made perfect sense to her when I said....tiddletiddletiddletiddle and waggled my fingers.
Don't have to be a babe to enjoy things.
Speaking of enjoying....I found yet another body on the bedroom floor this a.m.
This one is alive. A Snail. Kleenex.

Forgot to add this to today's posting...

An Added Spring Bird ~ Spring Advent ~ day 10.5

So while surfing, this small scene popped out at to me from over at resurrection fern, who has many Spring things to enjoy!

Having Fun

Christine linked us to this site where you can make up your own bit of posterity.
I thought the 'paper body' would make a good museum piece.

Speaking of having fun.
Babies laughing. Truly laughing. Gut busting hilarity.
Rhiley did that at home one day, I got to see the camera version.
Rhiley was sitting on the floor and daddy was crawling towards her. That was it.
But Rhiley was laughing so hard she had to be peeing her pampers.
Have to get that video!

Spring Advent~ Day 10

A Bird. A yellow bird. Found here.

Spring Advent~ Day 9

Carved eggs. Amazing. I picked a flickr page for the link on this one, as opposed to picking one carver, because there are many carvers of eggs to be found. Again. Amazing!

Body on my Floor!

A Kleenex body. Left by a dog.
The dogs like to eat used Kleenex when I have a cold. This bit of floaty nothing-ness happened to land on the floor in this shape.
Maybe it would make more sense to you if I dress it up in white lines and yellow tape....
Enough humor.
this is fabric. novelty fabric.
I have been collecting novelty fabric for years. For children's quilts, for my own 3-tier gathered skirts, for Stack 'n Whack quilts. There is about 3x this amount in my whole collection...of course.
sometimes it was just for the novelty of it....hehehe
Christine asked what I was doing with the embroidered pocket...this is what I have done with it so far. I decided I wanted to make a quilt for myself using parts of all those novelty fabrics I have collected. I will be doing it in a mosaic type applique setting. I am also doing the stitches on 'top' as opposed to 'invisible' stitching. [like machine stitching] I have a spool of Oliver Twist thread in a green variation, and I will be using that for the sewing so I don't have to worry about matching threads. Besides, the Oliver Twist is a heavier thread and I like that.
The Travelers Quilt needs to be finished, but I put it aside while I was with cold.
I want to quilt close to the edges on 2 sides so the backing print doesn't roll around to the front. I also have novelty things to attach. As fringe maybe.
