Happy Blue New Moon Year

Gee, talk about this blue moon for new years eve is all over! Even in China...I found this quote that Susan had found where ever she found it for her blog....

New Year's Eve blue moons are rarer, occurring every 19 years. The last time a blue moon appeared on New Year's Eve was in 1990, and it won't happen again until 2028.

I can't wait to see what my birthday cake looks like....I made sure the blue moon hint was heard by all around here. I even saw a great commercial tonight for/by Blue Moon Beer.
The link doesn't take you to the commercial exactly, but it does give you a glimpse of the art work that is part of the tv ad. I found a link there for the TV spot, but it won't copy to paste as the real URL....rats...
and some of the art work is fantastic....try to get to the art pages and look under 'Madison 2007' it has a textile submission!!! [ they aren't letting me copy/paste pictures either, which is cool, though I would love to show them to you!]

Other Pictures to Share

I was going to add this to my ornament advent, but I am not sure if it's actually an ornament. It's really likeable though, isn't it?!
My daughter Ashley works at a small neighbor hood store and again this year they had Santa stop by for cookies and pictures.
So of course she had to get a family picture with the jolly old elf himself!

Blue Moon

You know, blogger's can be as packed with info as Google is. For example, Susan says on this New Years Eve there is a full moon. Dec. has already had one full moon, so this second one is called the blue moon. She probably got this info from Google, by the way. I snagged the photo from her blog instead of looking for my own, thank you Susan!

For 52 years, New Years Eve has also been my birthday!
{I am mom's tax deduction, my brother is April 16th, sigh of relief after paying taxes}
So I think I need to post a bunch of hints on notes about having a blue moon cake,
don't you agree???

Wouldn't that picture make a great ornament? I just discovered this glitter, from another blog of course, and I think they have just the blue that would work for a Blue Moon Ornament....and maybe add a sprinkle of this one and maybe a dash of these beads for texture of course!

I am going to be singing the bits and pieces of every moon song I know, blue or otherwise!

Xmas Pix....a Whopping 2 of Them

My girls, Steph and Ashley.
I love this look Rhiley gave me as we all tried to get her to smile.....39 tries is about all it took and I liked this one better!
Took down Xmas decor today, I think the live tree ....ok....the live stick......was bugging my allergies, I think, I hope. I have also started a new applique/quilt project. I got the idea from a contest, though I probably wont' enter the contest, I just want to make this small quilt. I found the link on Judy Perez's blog.

Advent Day 24.5

I thought I would add a few Advent Calendars that I came across.... in my Google hunt just now.
This one is magnetic....made on a cookie sheet! Now who of us doesn't have a cookie sheet that would look much better if a reindeer ran over it???
So spray paint the nasty thing and make it beautiful!!! Here's how...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This wonderful one with birds is here....store bought, but nice easy price.
I tried to look for this house and got goggled in Google-d and down right bamdoggled...
where's the Holiday Toasting Toast Stuff....I think I need some so I can write straight.
I know I have seen many knitted stockings in counts of 24. What have you seen?
Lily Has Pierced Ears!
Lily got her ears pierced yesterday! {daddy is trying to distract Lily so I can get a pic}
Megan didn't want her done, which is fine, nor a surprise. But I forgot to tell her she can still wear earrings....need to remember that!
This doll was hung with care,
when Steph's BF was hare.
The Annual GB House
Stephanie had help from her boyfriend this year and look, they added a pond to the yard of the house.
the back of the house....that red and white thing is a snowman with 'blood' on him....have I mentioned lately that Steph and her BF are 19 years old??? you can click to enlarge the picture if you really want to see it close up...
There is also a soldier to protect the dwelling.
and let us not miss the centipede on the roof!
Advent Day 24
Christmas Eve. Can you beileve it? Not me. Just the other day it was the shortest day of the year.....oh, that was JUST the other day....don't mind me, just a little cuckoo for coco puffs.
This wired deer also has beads on it! Way cool. From the Ten Thousand Villages, again. Very creative people, those from the 10 thousand villages.
So where do we go from here???? I have come up with an idea for a Spring Advent. Spring does arrive faithfully after winter, so why not? {ADVENT-----a coming into place, view, or being; arrival: the advent of the holiday season.From dictionary dot com} Until then, I will be catching up on my zzzzzzzz's.......
Advent Day 21....and Day 22
Melissa, from the website these ornaments came from, commented on how nice I was to share the link to their site, etc. You are welcome Melissa! And look, 2 more from them, these for the guys. Perfect for the kitchen tree I know some of you have.....
I can not beileve I missed yesterday.
I had about four hundred grandchildren here.
What? I don't have that many? Hummmmmm.......sure felt like it........
Does iGoogle?
Yes i does, says Rhiley. BTW, she had her first tooth break through during the night when no one was looking!
Need I say anything about this one????
I want to add crows to a project. So in order to make the lines of the drawing visible on the fabric, I stitched around them. Like paper piecing. The yellow thread shows up better on the black.
Just Pretend It's A Tree.....
Stephanie {also known as CollegeGirl} is rooting around in the hope chest.....
and rooting some more. This is where we keep Christmas ornaments.
Stephanie laughing at the pipe cleaner snowflake....
And when all is said and done....we have a tree you can't see worth a damn in the dark, but the reflection of my wooden shelf on the opposite wall looks pretty good!
And the tree using a flash....
Oh look....there are still pine cones on the branches.....
"branches? mom, the so-called-tree IS a branch!"
So this year we have gone Green. I found a downed branch in the neighbors yard. It still had a nice end to it so I talked Steph into using this as the tree this year!!! AND in the bowl holding this tree are toy cars....for the weight....the red flannel is from my childhood Christmas trees. The lights aren't LED though.
Advent Day 20
I really like these critters, and though you can't get them anymore....you can get these!
Part pine cone. I like these. Buri Palm is what the other parts of these are....I am guessing that is the 'bristle' looking part.
Advent Day 18
A copper teapot is todays offering. It looks ceramic to me....but for a tea lover, it's the pot that counts......not what it's made of.
Things I Made....for a Change
A few years ago my neice went to India for 6 months. I wished for silks to come home with her. And though I have told this before, I think the story that she brought back with the silks made it all even better.
Lindsay walked into a shop that had silk fabrics, possibly a dress maker, and asked for scraps of silk. So the shop keeper asked Linds to relax on the floor and he went upstairs [loft?] and rained silk bits and pieces down upon her, asking if she liked this piece or that!
I am not sure if payment was involved, but that is how I got a wonderful selection of silk scraps.
Ever since, I have wanted to make something for each member of that side of the family but could never come up with anything until now.
I call them the Wish Bags. They are about 2 inches wide and 8 to 10 inches long.
I pulled the silk scraps out of the bucket, stitched a block of 'fabric', folded and folded again, then machine stitched the long sides. I hand stitched the 'handle' and top hem.
I "filled" them with Good Wishes and sent them on their way.
And I did manage to get one picture of the cards I made from the Christmas Collage I had so much fun with.
Advent day 16
A cow. Just think about how big you could make this?? With string, small. With rope, bigger. With ship ropes, huge! You could put the cow in the yard if you made it with the giant rope on ships! Now that would be one sacred beast!
Advent Day 15
Wreaths! So simple, but so effective on the tree in lots of lots. Made from parts of sweaters!
Meet Mrs. Yorba
Ashley and Danny got married last night at the courthouse.
Us Davis's on the left and the Yorba family on the right. We are mom and dad, they are grandfather, aunts and cousins.
The blurry person is the judge who married these 3.
The Yorba genes were evident last night.
Paperwork.
Prep work....getting ready to go.
Congratulations Ashley and Danny {and Rhiley}!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Advent Day 14
I know many people put pickles on trees....I haven't figured out why....I mean, why a pickle? Why not....say....a zucchini? Just because some people can grow them to outstanding sizes shouldn't mean they can't be stabbed with an...well...let's use an ice hook to hang that puppy on the tree! Course you could always carve that puppy into a tree shape and hang pickles on it! Did you notice this pickle has wings?!
Christmas Card College....and another Shout Out
Happy Birthday Danny!!!
{thats the shout out}
I kept holiday related ads from places like Pier 1, Target, LLBean, etc, from last year and this. After cutting them all up, I glued them to this striped bag the girls got from some store at the mall last year. I had a lot of fun making this! Then I cut it all up for cards....but the cards didn't quite turn out as great as this is. But that's ok, they are made with joy! How's that for re-use??
