The Rock Broke

"Gup, take a family picture of us"
Phone rang. It was Steph right outside, calling from her phone.
"take a picture of us mom"

Saturday night, this Rock broke.
{{Steph explained it this morning: "You are always there for us, we forget that you need love and encouragement too mom."}}
I had all the kids here and my husband too. [he works nights]

I have been caring for my mom since she moved in 2 years ago. She has been slowly giving way to dementia. It has been hard to be encouraging and creative with her negative remarks, her anger towards Ben, her being nasty to Meg and Lily but not Rhiley.....being sick myself this week, taking care of sickly Meg, the weather turning hot....I lost it.
My first call went out to Steph, "bring the car home, NOW, I need to run away." Steph was in the middle of a golf course...GOLF, people!
She called Dad and Ashley.....and the phone tag went on until all of them came home and held me and loved me.
[]mom, or at least the woman in moms body, hadn't a clue what was going on, and that is so painful for me[]

  2. What's the BEST thing about this?

    THEY KNEW WHAT TO DO!!!

Mostly, all I ever need is a huge long bear hug, tissue for my tears, and some tylenol for my headache.

  4. Oh this is such a difficult time with a mom that seems to no longer be there but lost in dementia. What a great support you have in your family. Hope you are doing okay. One always wonders, years later, how all was weathered and survived. Hope all is well with you. Hang in there.

  5. The whole lot of you get Straight A's for this one.

You, for being the amazing woman that you are...taking care of your Mom, your kids, your grandkids, your husband AND still having a sense of humor to write a witty blog...but most of all for knowing when it's all too much and throwing up a flag.

And straight A's to your family for carrying you when you couldn't do it anymore. It's a great lesson for all of you. And most of all for your kids...

Big hugs to you Vicky. You're the best.

  6. I'm late in reading this, but ... I'm so sorry.

I wish there was more support for the caretakers in this country.
